"Roofing license cost" searches land on two different numbers wearing the same label: what the state charges (usually $100–$700 all-in) and what the exam-prep and filing industry charges around it (up to $2,495). This page separates them.
Budget the state's number first. It is printed per state in our dataset from the board's fee schedule — application plus license or registration — and it is the only part that is mandatory. Everything else (classes, application-prep services, expedite help) is a purchase decision, and it should be made after you know the exam format and your qualifying party's odds.
| State | Regime | Total state cost |

Registered contractor initial fees are published in a similar cycle-priced range (about $151-$263 in secondary summaries). |

Full 51-jurisdiction table: the dataset page. Where a state does not publish a figure, the cell says “Not published” — we do not estimate government fees.
Contractors State License Schools (California) lists Home Study $295, Crash $495, Live Online $695, All-Inclusive $1,195. Roofing Academy X (Illinois) lists $1,995 residential and $2,495 unlimited classes. A Rhode Island test-prep package surfaced at $1,269.95. None of these are state fees. The state's own California charges are a $450 application and a $200 initial license — the class costs up to six times the government it prepares you for.
