Roofing license in Idaho

Registration only. Idaho does not license roofers, but a contractor doing construction work over $2,000 must be registered with the Idaho Contractors Board (Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses) under the Idaho Contractor Registration Act, Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 52. Registration is paperwork and insurance only — there is no trade exam and no experience test — and the registration number must appear on contracts, permits, ads and jobsite documents.

Checked in part. The load-bearing facts on this page (regime, threshold, exam) are sourced below, but one or more figures for Idaho could not be confirmed on a primary board or statute page in the October 22, 2026 pass. Anything unconfirmed is printed as “Not published” — never estimated. Confirm the open figures with the board before you file.

Classes and credentials

CredentialScopeNotes
Registered Contractor (general registration — covers roofing)bothOne general contractor registration; Idaho has no roofing-specific class or endorsement. Registration is required for construction work exceeding $2,000; owner-builders doing their own work on their own land (not for sale within 12 months) are exempt.

The dollar line

License trigger: $2,000 — Total construction job value — registration required for work exceeding $2,000. Below/at the threshold, state registration is not triggered, but local permits and business rules still apply. Splitting jobs to stay under the threshold does not create a separate roofing license — there is none.

Subcontractors

Subcontractors doing construction over $2,000 are contractors for registration purposes and must be registered themselves; registration is not covered by working under a registered general contractor.

The local layer

State registration is the ceiling for roofing credentialing — no city roofing license layer was verified. Cities/counties still issue building permits (e.g., Boise) and local business requirements can apply; the state registration number must be displayed at the business/jobsite and on advertising, contracts, permits and subcontracts.

Deductible law (insurance work)

No specific deductible-waiver statute found. No Idaho statute specifically prohibiting a roofing/home-improvement contractor from paying, waiving or rebating a homeowner's insurance deductible was found. Idaho Code 41-1314 bans rebates/illegal inducements by insurers and producers, which is a different actor and is not cited here as a contractor deductible ban. A secondary page attributing a deductible-waiver ban to 'IC 41-348' could not be verified in Idaho Code and was not relied on.
